Woven hammock chairs hanging in the warm, candlelit main room at Roxa Hammock Cafe, with the elixir bar glowing behind them.

Downtown Santa Cruz

The First Hammock Cafe in the US

Sun–Thu 12–9pm  ·  Fri–Sat 12–11pm

Cooper House Breezeway  ·  between Pacific Ave & Abbott Square

Rope hammock chairs lit deep violet, hanging in front of the breezeway windows. A single white hammock beside a leather couch and a driftwood table under warm amber light. The main room in blue and magenta light — a bare tree strung with fairy lights over the bar. A tea tray with a clay pot and cups on a tree-stump table against a moss wall. A curtained upstairs alcove with leather seating, alchemy artwork and a velvet cloak. A hand raising a glass laboratory flask of amber elixir against violet light and bare branches. A spread of elixirs on a live-edge wood table — a lilac cup, an iced latte and a foam-topped glass dusted with pollen.
Two açai bowls topped with banana, strawberry, mango, blueberries, coconut flakes and granola.

Açai Bowls

Roxa is Portuguese for purple

The bowls came first, and they are still the reason most people find the door. Açai blended thick, fresh fruit, granola, coconut. Organic and gluten-free — sweetened with dates, honey or maple, never refined sugar.

  • Mancub
  • O Bombom
  • Dragon Butter
The bar at night under coloured lights, fairy lights strung through manzanita branches overhead.

After Dark

Fridays and Saturdays, till 11

The room turns violet and the tempo drops. Kava, tonics and pots of tea by candlelight — still no alcohol, still a hammock. It is the quietest late night downtown, which is rather the point.
